Bereavement and loss are experiences, which may affect all parts of our being – emotional, physical, spiritual and social. Approximately 180,000 children under the age of 16 years lose a parent and approximately 12,000 children die in the UK each year.

How children deal with loss is an acknowledged factor in their mental wellbeing in later life. Education, health and social care professionals need a framework to develop strategies for dealing with loss and grief which are integral to the day-to-day work they do with children and families.
