The Children’s Trauma Academy identify that trauma is a psychologically distressing event outside of the range of ordinary human experiences that creates an intense and prolonged stress response. It is recognised that these incidents are usually outside of the typical human experiences, but sadly, for children in the foster care system, they can be very familiar.

In this module, we will explore the signs and symptoms of PTSD which make it different from many of the other trauma-related psychosocial injuries. We examine why PTSD may be going undiagnosed and review the estimated percentages for looked after children.
