This course provides a foundation understanding of the key stages of child development and how it influences a foster carer’s role in working with children and young people. The course explores the main issues and stages of ‘normal’ and ‘interrupted’ child development. We explore how the process of meeting developmental milestones may be adversely affected by the early experiences of a child in care. The course also looks at how foster carers can contribute towards improving the child and young person’s self-esteem and resilience.
