Description

Understanding Addictions – Training for Foster Carers, Social Workers, Drug Workers and Social Housing staff.

According to the charity Action on Addiction, 1 in 3 of us is addicted to something. This means that we are all likely to be touched by addiction in some way either personally, within our circle of family or friends or the wider community.

To be of any support to those at risk we need a solid foundation of understanding around:

  • But how does addiction develop?
  • What can we do to treat it?
  • What can we do to prevent it?

The course will address these questions. The course will better equip workers and carers to help the young or vulnerable people in their care navigate this complex area.

Learning Aims:

  1. Define dependency
  2. Distinguish dependencies from habits, and identify the signs of dependency
  3. Discuss the addictive process, the physiology of dependency, and the biopsychosocial model of dependency
  4. Describe types of dependencies, including gambling, work, exercise, sexual, and internet dependencies, as well as codependence

Need more time?

We recognise that sometimes groups need more time for discussions and group work. This can mean that a two-hour session is just not long enough to explore the curriculum and engage in question and answer sessions. So we are you offering the opportunity to extend the session by an hour to allow your trainees the chance to explore the curriculum fully!

They are nothing like e-learning! The training is live and interactive. Participants can ask and answer questions just as they would in face-to-face training.
