This course supports workers to understand the function of triage and assessment processes and how they link with a clear model of effective care planning. Matching client needs to integrated treatment pathways; participants practise skills for engaging clients and deepening the assessment process and explore approaches to developing care plans based on the natural motivation of the client.

This course ensures that participants are able to:

  1. Understand principles of Models of Care
  2. Conduct comprehensive assessments of risk and need
  3. Provide brief interventions in a harm reduction context
  4. Assess an individual’s substance misuse, the possible risks and related problems
  5. Explore the use of information giving as a way of enabling the individual to find out about and access other services and facilities

Format: Taught sections, small group work, work in pairs, whole group discussion
