Course Overview
Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) is a devastating form of abuse that often occurs in plain sight, hidden behind complex dynamics of manipulation, grooming, and coercion. Recognising early indicators and responding quickly can save a young person's life.
This interactive e-learning course equips professionals and community workers with the knowledge, awareness, and confidence to identify subtle signs of CSE, understand how perpetrators operate, and implement effective safeguarding protocols. Through real-world case scenarios, legal frameworks, and practical guidance, you will gain a deep understanding of your duty of care and the concrete steps needed to keep children safe.
Key Learning Objectives
By completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the Nature of CSE: Define child sexual exploitation, distinguish it from other forms of abuse, and understand how modern grooming works—both in-person and online.
- Identify Indicators & Warning Signs: Spot physical, behavioural, emotional, and social indicators that may signal a child is at risk or currently experiencing exploitation.
- Recognise Vulnerabilities & Tactics: Analyse how perpetrators target specific vulnerabilities, establish control, create dependency, and enforce silence through coercion and trauma-bonding.
- Respond Appropriately & Professionally: Use trauma-informed practices when talking to young people, avoid victim-blaming language, and build safety and trust.
- Follow Safeguarding & Reporting Protocols: Follow multi-agency referral processes, document concerns clearly, and know immediate emergency steps when a child is in danger.
