Child Sexual Exploitation

Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) is a type of sexual abuse. Children in exploitative situations and relationships receive gifts, money or affection as a result of performing sexual activities or others performing sexual activities on them. Some children and young people are trafficked into or within the UK for the purpose of sexual exploitation. Sexual exploitation can affect young men and women and can happen to young people in gangs.

This course will help carers understand and respond to the needs of children and young people placed with them who could be at risk of sexual exploitation.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Have a basic knowledge and understanding of child sexual exploitation.
  2. Understand the nature of risk for particular children and young people.
  3. Recognise signs and symptoms of CSE.
  4. Be aware of how children and young people are affected by sexual exploitation and understand behaviours they may present.
  5. Understand the grooming process off-line and online.
  6. To know where to go for support for young people and families.

Is this course for me?

Attendance on this course is MANDATORY for foster carers. An update / refresher is required every three years.

This course is for foster carers, adopters and Supervising Social Workers. In addition, this course is for Residential Child Care Workers (RCCW) and residential team managers from mainstream, short-breaks and outreach services.

Also relevant for youth workers, education professionals and those in the community and voluntary sectors.

Level: beginner / intermediate This course can be adapted to advanced level for skilled practitioners.
