Safeguarding for Housing Providers

This course seeks to clarify the responsibilities and processes around Safeguarding to minimise the risk of Housing Services not fulfilling their obligations, failing in their duty of care and ultimately being open to prosecution. This course will support your organisation in reducing these risks by empowering your staff to take the appropriate and correct actions.

Aims: 

  1. Introduce the concepts of child protection and safeguarding adults
  2. Ensure that staff/volunteers become confident and competent in recognising abuse, sharing concerns, and carrying out their duty to safeguard all children/young people/vulnerable adults
  3. Develop a clear understanding of all types of abuse including domestic abuse
  4. Understand the full scope of signs and indicators of abuse
  5. Understand the circumstances in which abuse may occur and by whom
  6. Understand what to do if you are worried that a person may be being abused
  7. To understand what factors may increase risk, when present in a tenancy

At the end of the course, participants will be able to: 

  1. Know when and how to raise a safeguarding concern
  2. Understand the internal and external reporting procedures
  3. Define vulnerable adult, child abuse and possible signs of abuse and neglect
  4. Identify factors that impact on child vulnerability, including parental factors
  5. List all related legislative and procedural frameworks
  6. Understand information sharing protocols
  7. Understand the duty of care for their particular role
  8. Recognise thresholds for action within safeguarding and child protection
  9. Identify the factors that impact on the vulnerability of adults including Mental Capacity Act
  10. Understand how housing service fits into the wider Care Act context
  11. Have an increased understanding of the history and legal context that underpins the safeguarding agenda.
  12. Understand the role of the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO)
  13. Understand how to protect himself or herself from allegations

Is this course for me?

This course is recommended for all staff and a Safeguarding update/refresher is required every 3 years (or every other year for Designated Safeguarding Officers)
