PACE for Professionals

PACE for Professionals helps teams develop a consistent, compassionate approach to relationships, regulation and engagement which supports better outcomes for children and young people in their care.

Whether you’re supporting children in a family home or residential setting, embedding PACE across the team can create greater consistency around the child, helping to build trust and reduce conflict and strengthen placements.

Over time, this contributes to more therapeutic relationships, greater emotional security and more sustainable placements, while also supporting the wellbeing and confidence of the adults around the child.

PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity & Empathy), is a proven therapeutic approach developed by Clinical Psychologist Dan Hughes. This mindset presents a valuable opportunity for adults to strengthen their connections with children by engaging in communication and interactions that promote a sense of safety and security. This training module emphasises building meaningful connections with children to establish a secure bond before addressing their behaviour.
This is the second instalment of a vital five-part series in PACE. Children and young people who have faced neglect, abuse, or loss often struggle to trust that adults can be safe, friendly, and caring. It is vital to use playfulness as a strategy to demonstrate that there is ample opportunity for fun and relaxed interactions, even amid challenging circumstances. Engaging in playful moments effectively reduces the shame a child may feel when things go wrong and sends a clear message that disagreements are temporary and will not undermine the strength of your relationship.
This transformative training module equips practitioners and carers with a deep, neurobiologically grounded understanding of trauma, attachment, and the critical role of Acceptance, a foundational pillar of the PACE mindset. Grounded in cutting-edge neuroscience (including the Polyvagal framework, brain development, and the Window of Tolerance), this course reveals how chronic stress reshapes the mind, body, and nervous system. Participants will explore how to look past surface behaviours to address unmet needs, dismantle corrosive shame cycles, and build the regulating, attuned relationships necessary for healing.
Grounded in the Curiosity pillar of the PACE mindset, this transformative course equips practitioners with the skills to move from "How do I stop this?" to "What is this child telling me?" By weaving together Nonviolent Communication (NVC), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and positive psychology, you will learn to deploy non-judgmental curiosity as an intentional, trainable skill, thereby reducing defensiveness and strengthening the therapeutic alliance, even in high-stress moments.
Empathy is most powerful when connection is hardest to offer and most needed. Grounded in the PACE framework, this training explores how Empathy acts as a cornerstone for therapeutic care, co-regulation, and practitioner well-being. Participants will gain actionable strategies to build secure relational bases for children while learning to protect their own emotional health against compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma.

E-learning Follow-On Courses

While standalone e-learning is ideal for self-paced study, and Zoom excels at real-time group interaction, combining the two creates a far more dynamic learning experience.

Using them together gives you the best of both worlds:

  • Flexible Foundation: Learners absorb core concepts, policy frameworks, and essential theory on their own time through interactive e-learning modules.
  • Deep Practice: Live Zoom sessions transform passive knowledge into active skills through breakout discussions, practical scenarios, and live Q&A.
  • Sustained Impact: Digital materials remain accessible for ongoing reference long after the live session ends.
  • Proven Results: Combining flexible online knowledge building with live, reflective discussion leads to significantly higher retention rates, better critical thinking during crises, and consistent standards of care across your entire workforce.

Empowering Safety: Bespoke Safeguarding & Child Protection Training

Why Choose Bespoke Training?

Generic training can leave staff feeling unprepared for the real-life scenarios they face. Our tailored approach ensures the content, delivery method, and case studies are directly relevant to your sector (e.g., education, healthcare, sport, charity, corporate), your local policies, and the specific vulnerabilities and risks present in your community.

Our Specialised Training Pillars

We design engaging, practical, and compliant training across three core areas:

  • For Professionals Working with Children (Child Protection): Focuses on recognising the signs of abuse and neglect, statutory guidance (e.g., Working Together to Safeguard Children), robust reporting procedures, and the creation of a safe, child-focused culture.
  • For Professionals Working with Adults (Adult Safeguarding): Focuses on the principles of the Care Act, understanding different types of harm, promoting wellbeing, Mental Capacity Act (MCA) considerations, and ensuring person-led safeguarding responses.
  • Blended Cohorts (Safeguarding for All Ages): Ideal for organisations whose staff or volunteers interact with both children and adults (e.g., community centres, housing associations, religious organisations). This training highlights the common principles of good practice while clearly delineating the different legal frameworks, signs of harm, and reporting routes for each demographic.

Invest in training that transforms knowledge into action. Equip your team with the confidence and competence to protect those in your care proactively.
