PACE Mindset – for Groups (1/5) (Zoom)

£370.00 3 hours

Description

This is the first instalment of a five-part series. Please ensure that you do this course BEFORE the other five.

Please note that this module alone will not equip workers with the techniques necessary to implement all the P-A-C-E elements of the model; to ensure full competency, please book the four subsequent courses.

PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity & Empathy), is a proven therapeutic approach developed by Clinical Psychologist Dan Hughes. The PACE mindset presents a valuable opportunity for adults to strengthen their connections with children by engaging in communication and interactions that promote a sense of safety and security. This training module emphasises building meaningful connections with children to establish a secure bond before addressing their behaviour. The P.A.C.E. Mindset has received widespread recognition as an effective strategy for those working with children, and we encourage you to embrace its principles.

As you progress through this course and the subsequent four modules, we will equip you with practical resources and strategies to effectively demonstrate your therapeutic engagement using PACE.

It is essential to start with this PACE Mindset course before delving into the other modules, as you may feel overwhelmed by the subsequent courses. Please book all five modules to ensure a complete implementation of PACE.

Key components of the training:

This training focuses on understanding the principles of the PACE mindset. We cover topics such as:

    • Child Trauma Responses: Gain insight into how children respond to loss and trauma.
    • Understanding Trauma: Explore the national profile of trauma and its implications.
    • Secure Base Model: Understand the workings of the secure base model and its significance in addressing attachment challenges.
    • Adverse Childhood Experiences (A.C.E.): Get an overview of A.C.E. and explore self-medicating behaviours that may arise from these experiences.
    • Impacts of Trauma: Identify the critical biological and psychosocial effects of experiencing trauma.
    • Brain-Based Parenting: Develop a working knowledge of the brain-based parenting techniques defined by Dan Hughes.
    • Understanding Negative Behaviours: Learn about the roots of negative behaviours in young people and how they can be viewed as a form of communication.
    • Discuss the difficulties associated with implementing the P.A.C.E. model of care.
    • Behaviour Support Plans: Understand how behaviour support plans identify challenging behaviours and their triggers, which is essential for providing adequate support during crises.
    • Strategies for Support: Learn how to use behaviour support plans effectively.

Suitable for:

Our PACE suite is suitable for a wide range of individuals. We recommend a yearly refresher to ensure that practices stay fresh and to help prevent the worker from reverting to the style of parenting they experienced:

  • Social Workers: Case managers, child welfare workers, and community organisers.
  • Caregivers: Residential workers, care home staff, Foster carers, adoptive parents, and kinship caregivers.
  • Mental Health Professionals: Therapists, counselors & social workers.
  • Educators: Also see "PACE for Schools" - Teachers, school counselors, and special education professionals.
  • Birth Parents: Use "PACE for Parents" instead. This is workforce development training. Some content may be triggering, and it will not be appropriate to address specific individual examples or development needs in front of the group.

Empowering Safety: Bespoke Safeguarding & Child Protection Training

Why Choose Bespoke Training?

Generic training can leave staff feeling unprepared for the real-life scenarios they face. Our tailored approach ensures the content, delivery method, and case studies are directly relevant to your sector (e.g., education, healthcare, sport, charity, corporate), your local policies, and the specific vulnerabilities and risks present in your community.

Our Specialised Training Pillars

We design engaging, practical, and compliant training across three core areas:

  • For Professionals Working with Children (Child Protection): Focuses on recognising the signs of abuse and neglect, statutory guidance (e.g., Working Together to Safeguard Children), robust reporting procedures, and the creation of a safe, child-focused culture.
  • For Professionals Working with Adults (Adult Safeguarding): Focuses on the principles of the Care Act, understanding different types of harm, promoting wellbeing, Mental Capacity Act (MCA) considerations, and ensuring person-led safeguarding responses.
  • Blended Cohorts (Safeguarding for All Ages): Ideal for organisations whose staff or volunteers interact with both children and adults (e.g., community centres, housing associations, religious organisations). This training highlights the common principles of good practice while clearly delineating the different legal frameworks, signs of harm, and reporting routes for each demographic.

Invest in training that transforms knowledge into action. Equip your team with the confidence and competence to protect those in your care proactively.

Need more time?

We recognise that sometimes groups need more time for discussions and group work. This can mean that a two-hour session is just not long enough to explore the curriculum and engage in question and answer sessions. So we are you offering the opportunity to extend the session by an hour to allow your trainees the chance to explore the curriculum fully!
