P.A.C.E. & Trauma Informed Care Training

The PACE approach, developed by Clinical Psychologist Dan Hughes, offers a practical, trauma-informed way of responding to the everyday challenges faced by children and young people with trauma or attachment difficulties.

PACE helps professionals move beyond behaviour management alone, providing a clear relational framework that reduces conflict, increases emotional safety, and supports consistent responses across teams.

Begin with the PACE Mindset to establish shared understanding and language, followed by the four highly practical PACE in Practice modules. Whether you learn through our live trainer-led sessions, our e-learning modules, or a blend of both, our structured pathway helps organisations embed PACE consistently into practice and improve outcomes for both staff and children.

Advance Your PACE Practice Through E-Learning

Whether you’re looking for a flexible introduction, to reinforce learning, or a refresher months later, our PACE e-learning lets you learn exactly what you need, when you need it.

Our live training remains the best place to learn with colleagues, discuss real situations, and gain the confidence to put PACE into practice.

Our PACE e-learning modules have been created to reinforce and extend that learning, not replace it.

Instead of revisiting a full three-hour training session, you might simply want to refresh your understanding of a specific concept or technique, such as SOBER breathing. Our e-learning modules make this easy.

The e-learning also provides a starting point for those looking for an introduction to PACE before progressing to the full live suite.

Boosts Knowledge Retention: Our brains aren’t built to absorb hours of data at once. Small, focused bursts of information help staff remember key teaching points.

Boosts Knowledge Retention: It’s important to actively engage with our knowledge to maintain it. These modules have been thoughtfully created to help us reinforce our understanding of essential processes and assess our retention of the information effectively.

Boosts Knowledge Retention: In these modules, we thoroughly explore each topic, providing an in-depth understanding comparable to that of a live training event. This approach ensures that you gain valuable insights and knowledge to enhance your learning experience.

Instant Application: For instance, learn a de-escalation technique and put it into practice five minutes later.

Application: This course offers an opportunity to build on key insights into trauma-informed practices and to ensure they align with best practices, fostering improvement in our approach.

Application: This course is designed to provide a comprehensive 360-degree review and engagement in the topic, ensuring that everything from theory to practice is embedded in your learning journey.

Benefits: Short, engaging content (videos, quizzes, and infographics) keeps morale high and prevents staff from feeling overwhelmed by compliance requirements.

Benefits: This module serves as a training review to consolidate your learning and help identify gaps or misunderstandings in your knowledge.

Benefits: Zoom training may not be the best fit for everyone. While live courses can offer valuable benefits to some participants, many find that self-studying at their own pace can lead to even greater efficiency and understanding. This module aims to enhance that self-directed learning experience and provide the support you need to succeed.

Social Care Training Solutions

PACE for Parents

The PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) for Parents course is a vital therapeutic parenting approach, specifically designed to provide support and understanding to parents and caregivers. It is beneficial for those with children who have experienced trauma, loss, or attachment disruption.

This is a two-day training program delivered via Zoom. The cost per person is £100.

Key Topics and Themes through the two days will be:

  • Introduction to the PACE Model: Understanding the origins of the PACE mindset and its theoretical underpinnings.
  • Impact of Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs): Learning how trauma affects brain development, behaviour, and relationships in children, and how to adopt a trauma-informed approach.
  • Attachment Theory: Exploring different attachment styles and how PACE helps create secure attachment.
  • Therapeutic Parenting: Understanding that PACE is more than a technique; it’s a “way of being” that informs all interactions.
  • Practical Application of PACE:
    • Using PACE in everyday interactions.
    • Applying PACE during emotional outbursts, difficult situations, and when handling rejection.
    • Developing effective communication tools and responses.
    • Understanding non-verbal communication and its importance.

This course is NOT

What does PACE stand for?:

Playfulness

Use a light-hearted, reassuring tone – similar to parent-infant interactions – to create an atmosphere of safety and reassurance where no one feels judged, and the child can cope with positive feelings.

Acceptance

Acceptance is about actively communicating that you accept the feelings, thoughts and internal struggles underneath the child’s outward behaviour. It is not about accepting the behaviour but helping teach the child not to feel ashamed of their inner turmoil.

Curiosity

Curiosity, without judgement, is how we help children become aware of their inner life. It’s about wondering out loud without necessary expecting an answer in return. Phrases like “I wonder if…” will help the child to name their thoughts and emotions.

Empathy

Feeling a child’s sadness or distress and being emotionally available to them during times of difficulty shows the child that they are not alone and that the adult is strong enough to support them.

Empowering Safety: Bespoke Safeguarding & Child Protection Training

Why Choose Bespoke Training?

Generic training can leave staff feeling unprepared for the real-life scenarios they face. Our tailored approach ensures the content, delivery method, and case studies are directly relevant to your sector (e.g., education, healthcare, sport, charity, corporate), your local policies, and the specific vulnerabilities and risks present in your community.

Our Specialised Training Pillars

We design engaging, practical, and compliant training across three core areas:

  • For Professionals Working with Children (Child Protection): Focuses on recognising the signs of abuse and neglect, statutory guidance (e.g., Working Together to Safeguard Children), robust reporting procedures, and the creation of a safe, child-focused culture.
  • For Professionals Working with Adults (Adult Safeguarding): Focuses on the principles of the Care Act, understanding different types of harm, promoting wellbeing, Mental Capacity Act (MCA) considerations, and ensuring person-led safeguarding responses.
  • Blended Cohorts (Safeguarding for All Ages): Ideal for organisations whose staff or volunteers interact with both children and adults (e.g., community centres, housing associations, religious organisations). This training highlights the common principles of good practice while clearly delineating the different legal frameworks, signs of harm, and reporting routes for each demographic.

Invest in training that transforms knowledge into action. Equip your team with the confidence and competence to protect those in your care proactively.
