Description

Understanding Trauma: an online course for Foster Carers, Social Workers, Drug Workers and Social Housing Teams

It is essential that we use trauma-informed practice when working with children and young people who have suffered neglect, rejection or emotional/physical/sexual abuse.  This starts with acknowledging that often people have experienced different types of trauma in their lives.

Trauma-informed care emphasises physical, psychological and emotional safety for workers, children and young people alike and helps to rebuild a sense of control and empowerment. Carers who care for trauma survivors will need to develop robust caring and therapeutic skills, as this is the first critical step in building a therapeutic alliance and will offer the child the best chance of recovering from their experiences and developing a resilient state.

Need more time?

We recognise that sometimes groups need more time for discussions and group work. This can mean that a two-hour session is just not long enough to explore the curriculum and engage in question and answer sessions. So we are you offering the opportunity to extend the session by an hour to allow your trainees the chance to explore the curriculum fully!
